Who We Are
Patient, Clear Information for a Major Life Transition
Calmharbor exists because navigating retirement in Malaysia can feel confusing — and it should not have to be. We are an education and document organisation service, not a financial adviser.

How Calmharbor Came to Be
Calmharbor started from a very ordinary observation: people approaching retirement in Malaysia often felt overwhelmed before they had even started. They were not struggling with complicated numbers — they were struggling to understand which office to contact, which documents to keep, and what questions were even worth asking.
A group of us who had spent years working in community education and administrative support saw the same pattern play out repeatedly. Families who simply needed a clear, structured overview of how the retirement system works — and a sensible way to organise the paperwork they had accumulated over the years — were instead getting buried in confusing material or pushed towards services that were more about selling products than sharing knowledge.
We opened our doors in Petaling Jaya with a straightforward idea: offer honest, calm, educational sessions that help people understand what is generally available to them, and help them get their documents in order before they approach the relevant authorities. Nothing more. We do not sell financial products. We do not make recommendations about personal finances. We simply help people arrive at the right offices more informed and better prepared.
Our Mission
Making Retirement Clearer, One Step at a Time
We help Malaysians approach the retirement transition feeling informed rather than lost. Our sessions are educational and organisational — always at a pace that suits each person, never pressured.
Our Values
- Clarity: We use plain language. Jargon gets explained, not assumed.
- Patience: Every person's starting point is different. We meet people where they are.
- Honesty: We are not financial advisers. We are upfront about what we can and cannot help with.
- Respect: Retirement is personal. We treat every enquiry with discretion and care.
The People Behind the Sessions
Our Facilitators
Each member of our small team brings a background in community education, administrative support, or public-sector outreach. None of us are financial advisers, and that is by design.
Lim Chee Wah
Lead Facilitator
Chee Wah spent twelve years running community information workshops for a Selangor state agency before joining Calmharbor. He leads the First Steps sessions and writes most of our reference guides.
Nor Haslinda Razali
Document Organisation Specialist
Haslinda's background is in records management and administrative training for the public sector. She designs and facilitates our Paperwork Organisation Workshops and keeps our checklists up to date.
Rajendran Krishnasamy
Programme Coordinator
Raj coordinates the Full Retirement Information Journey programme and handles follow-up support. He previously worked in adult education and has a particular interest in making official processes easier to navigate.
How We Work
Our Standards and Approach
We hold ourselves to a small set of standards that shape every session we run.
Education First, Always
Every session is designed as general education. We do not make personal recommendations, and we are clear about this from the first conversation.
Privacy and Discretion
We only ask for the information needed to run sessions effectively. We do not pass participant details to third parties, and we handle all documents shared with us with care.
Regularly Updated Materials
Retirement frameworks and official processes in Malaysia can change. We review our reference guides and checklists regularly to make sure the information we share reflects current structures.
Appropriate Signposting
When a question falls outside general education — into personal financial advice territory — we stop and direct the person to the appropriate licensed body or official authority.
Accessible Format
Sessions are designed to be accessible to anyone regardless of their level of familiarity with formal financial or administrative language. We ask at the start where each person is and adjust accordingly.
Feedback After Every Programme
We collect written feedback at the end of each workshop and use it to refine what we do. If something was unclear or unhelpful, we want to know so we can improve it.
Context & Approach
Retirement Information in Malaysia: What People Often Need First
Malaysia's retirement landscape involves a number of distinct components — the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) for most private-sector workers, the Public Services Pension Scheme for civil servants, and various voluntary savings and supplementary options. Each has its own structure, withdrawal conditions, and associated official bodies. For someone who has spent decades working without needing to engage closely with these systems, making sense of it all before retirement can feel like reading a map in an unfamiliar language.
Calmharbor's sessions address that initial layer of confusion. We help people understand, in general terms, how each part of the system fits together, what documentation is typically relevant to the retirement process, and how to prepare organised records before approaching EPF, KWAP, or any other relevant body.
We are based in Petaling Jaya and serve participants from across the Klang Valley and Selangor. Sessions are available in English, with facilitators comfortable switching to Bahasa Malaysia for clarification. Our materials are updated to reflect current general guidance from official sources, and we are always clear that our role is educational — personal decisions about retirement finances belong with the individual and, where appropriate, with licensed professionals.
